About The Movement
Join us in creating a trauma-informed community that supports healing and resilience for all.

Envisioning a Trauma-Informed Kent:
A Community of Compassion and Understanding
Imagine a vibrant and inclusive Kent where every workplace, family and community member understands the impact of trauma and responds with genuine empathy and compassion. In this vision, we come together to create a nurturing environment that not only acknowledges the challenges individuals face but also actively fosters healing and wellbeing in all of us. By promoting awareness and encouraging open conversations about trauma, we can build stronger, more connected relationships that uplift and empower each of us. Together, we can transform our community into a safe space where we overcome adversity, and everyone has the opportunity to heal and thrive.
What is the Pledge?
Trauma Informed Kent is a movement which brings together organisations and individuals, communities and networks, in seeking an authentically trauma informed, healing centred Kent and Medway. It’s a place where we can:
- Develop and deliver services and support which are authentically trauma responsive, improving outcomes and engagement for individuals, families and communities.
- Adapt and grow safe, culturally grounded systems and spaces which increase staff and organisation wellbeing, creating an environment of empathy and understanding.
- Come together without judgment, focusing on the wellbeing we want rather than the symptoms we want to suppress; a place where we can discover trust, connection and healing.
We invite all Kent and Medway organisations, agencies and services to commit to:
01
Take part in the movement
Make a pledge to take your part in the movement to bring about an authentically Trauma Informed, Healing Centred Kent and Medway. It’s a pledge – a commitment – rather than a checklist or achievement. It is flexible and recognises that different agencies will be at different stages of the journey. There is no financial cost or requirement to making the pledge.
02
Consider your organisational journey
Consider from your own perspective your organisational journey towards being trauma informed and responsive. Which of the various tools and frameworks are assisting you in your journey? Is there other help or support you will seek to help you to develop your organisation and embed in practice?
03
Contribute to others
Contribute on behalf of your organisation, yourself and the communities you serve and of which you are a part, to the various networks, forums and practice communities which seek this vision.
04
Develop principles and strategies
Help to develop and share a set of trauma informed principles, and the system-wide strategies to incorporate these principles.
05
Lead in your part of the movement
Whatever your role, place or stage along this journey, to connect with others, to generate and innovate, and to lead in your part of the movement.
Commit to taking your part in the TIK movement:

A Trauma-Informed Kent for All
We are working towards Kent being a vibrant community where every individual is not only equipped with the essential knowledge and tools but is also actively engaged in making trauma-responsive practices the standard norm. In this community, support and understanding are woven into the very fabric of daily interactions, cultivating an environment where every child, teenager, adult and senior feels the safety of being understood.
How to Engage
Here are some of the ways to start engaging with our work
